Inverter/charger Recommendations

Well it appears my Heart inverter/charger finally gave up.
I'm looking up new models and there is a plethora of brands and models.
I need one in the 1800-2000 watt range, pure sinewave.
Any recommendations and personal experience would be appreciated.
What brands have you used and what has your experience been with that brand.

Re: Inverter/charger Recommendations

I’ve been happy with Outback. It works without problems. When it needed repairs after a lightning strike, I could order the replacement boards and install them myself. Far easier than having to ship it back to the US for repairs. The only downside was that the documentation was convoluted and I didn’t find the user-interface very intuitive. Some of those problems may have been resolved in the last 13 years though.

Re: Inverter/charger Recommendations

I don't have a new one yet, but have been comparing/shopping voraciously. Best bet out there seems to be the victron multi plus. I'm personally going for the 3k, as it has higher charging capabilities. Lots of programmability and interconnections possible.

Re: Inverter/charger Recommendations

outback is the most confusing inverter screen I have ever seen. the menus are ridiculous to try to get though.

I would go magnum, victron or mastervolt.

Been pretty happy for 7-8 years with my Victron.

Re: Inverter/charger Recommendations

I’ve had Victron Multi’s on three boats. Not cheap but well designed. A few years ago they upped the warranty from 2 years to 5. I can’t think of anything else in my boat that came with a 5 year warranty.

1. If you have space for the somewhat bulky cabinet, get the 3000 watt instead of the 2000 watt for $100 more. The 120 amp battery charger makes a big difference over the 80 amp in the smaller unit.

2. Get the dongle dongle that lets you program it with a laptop. ASS030140000

3. Get the remote control panel REC020005010

Re: Inverter/charger Recommendations

We've been very happy with a pretty good collection of Victron equipment. (Solar controllers, isolation transformers, inverter/chargers, battery balancers) They have always worked as they should, and they have a huge number of options for control and monitoring of your power system. If you don't need it today, it will be there for the future. Their products play well together.

I can't give an opinion on their technical service, because I have never needed it. Which I guess is as good a recommendation as you can get. Honestly, ever single time I thought I might have a problem with a piece of Victron equipment, it has turned out to be something else that was the cause.

I just had a magnum installed with a moderate rewire by an experienced pro who swears by the magnum brand

Re: Inverter/charger Recommendations

I have a Magnum MS 2812, mostly because I’ve not heard of a single failure of one from anyone. Plus there are three boards that control different functions and are easily trouble shot, and readily available from Magnum at a good price.
Plus the add ons are very well priced like the MBK that is an amp counting battery monitor, but also allows you to terminate charge at a trailing amps set point.
The Outback version of the MBK is several times more expensive,I know as I have one on my Outback 80 Solar.

The Magnum is just a good solid piece of equipment, but it won’t connect to your cell phone and give you cool looking graphs, it just works year after year.

Re: Inverter/charger Recommendations

Ours is a ProMariner 2000W/70A PSW inverter charger. Installed a couple years ago, works OK so far. Sterling's version is the same product...
