Continuing getting my new to me 1968
Columbia 36 ready to splash in the next couple weeks for the season sailing around the
Chesapeake bay and looking for a little help on possible
electronics options.
Boat has old
AutoHelm Depth and speed transducers (this needs paddle
wheel repleaced which I am having trouble finding). It also has only
autohelm wind vane that in theory only provides
wind speed, not direction. I say in theory because the wires are cut (long story but previous owner cut tons of wires) so I dont actually know it works. Put all that together and I am considering biting the bullet and getting new instrument package.
Boat splashes in roughly 3 weeks so not a ton of time for transducers. Hence looking for suggestions.
Wants.
Depth, speed,
wind direction and speed. Also know an
autopilot is something I am going to want to add this year. Some sort of
chartplotter either dedicated unit, or tablet using
Navionics. At some point will want to be adding
AIS too, but know that isn't happing now for
budget reasons.
Budget right now is $3,000 - 4,000 for
electronics getting as much as possible (but clearly not all). I like the
Navionics charts and have lot of non-marine
garmin stuff so they were a stong contender. I could get close to getting everything I went with a
Raymarine Wheelpilot, but know I am getting close to upper end of the specs.
B&G seems to have excellent sailing reputation but I have no experience with them, and again
autopilot get supper spendy.
If you were in my situation what would you do? Should I stop worrying about trying to have everything be one brand?
