Dan,
If you're attempting to display AIS targets on the RDP-143, unfortunately it will not do this.

However, you can send some NMEA0183 data to the Furuno, but assume you already do that?
{NMEA connections on Data 3 port: I believe the NMEA+ IN is Pin 2 (blue) and NMEA- IN (gnd) is Pin 7 (shield)...But, please verify this in YOUR manual...}
Also, a quick look shows the Furuno default NMEA baud rate of 4800, with additional / selectable baud rates of 9600 and 19200.
[NMEA 0183 AIS data is transmitted at 38400 baud]
So, this is another tip that it will not display AIS targets...
Further, I believe the only NMEA data that the Furuno can receive is:
Own ship’s position: GGA>RMC>RMA>GLL
Ship’s speed: RMC>RMA>VTG>VHW
External waypoint: RMB>WPL>BWR>BWC
Heading (True): HDT>HDG>HDM
Course: RMC>RMA>VTG
Depth: DPT>DBT
Temperature: MTW
Time: ZDA
Other ship’s information: TTM
Insight satellite information: GSV
Wind speed and angle: MWV>VWT>VWR
So, unless there has been an upgrade/revision that I'm not familiar with (possible), I don't see how your Furuno will display AIS targets.

(BTW, have you considered a Vesper Watchmate display?)

I hope this helps?
Fair winds and good luck...
