Assuming the navnet 1 can take ais (can’t recall) . It will be via nmea 183 from the vesper. You’d need a com port data cable for the navnet.

Do you have the installation manual? It should indicate which connectors are used for NMEA 0183. You may already have a plug (adapter) with unused wires for this, or you may need to buy one. Then it's just a matter of figuring out which color wires are NMEA in, NMEA out and Ground for each (Furuno and Vesper) and connecting them so the in for each goes to the out from the other.

Dan,
If you're attempting to display AIS targets on the RDP-143, unfortunately it will not do this.

However, you can send some NMEA0183 data to the Furuno, but assume you already do that?

{NMEA connections on Data 3 port: I believe the NMEA+ IN is Pin 2 (blue) and NMEA- IN (gnd) is Pin 7 (shield)...But, please verify this in YOUR manual...}

Also, a quick look shows the Furuno default NMEA baud rate of 4800, with additional / selectable baud rates of 9600 and 19200.
[NMEA 0183 AIS data is transmitted at 38400 baud]
So, this is another tip that it will not display AIS targets...

Further, I believe the only NMEA data that the Furuno can receive is:

Own ship’s position: GGA>RMC>RMA>GLL
Ship’s speed: RMC>RMA>VTG>VHW
External waypoint: RMB>WPL>BWR>BWC
Heading (True): HDT>HDG>HDM
Course: RMC>RMA>VTG
Depth: DPT>DBT
Temperature: MTW
Time: ZDA
Other ship’s information: TTM
Insight satellite information: GSV
Wind speed and angle: MWV>VWT>VWR

So, unless there has been an upgrade/revision that I'm not familiar with (possible), I don't see how your Furuno will display AIS targets.

(BTW, have you considered a Vesper Watchmate display?)

I hope this helps?

Fair winds and good luck...

John

Thanks, will display the Ais on an I pad. Probably should update my old Navnet chart plotter.

Glad to hear you have an iPad to use. If you need help the Vesper customer service / tech folks are top notch. I’m on my second XB-8000 and love it. Of course I have a newer B&G 12T so am a bit spoiled.

Re: Installing Vesper 8000 Ais help

I have an old 90's Furuno RADAR. forget the model, but it is connected to NMEA0183 but mine will only repeat the Lat and Lon provided to it over the network. Mine doesn't share any useful information that would allow me to repeat the display.

I know this isn't useful... sorry, I love the RADAR but would really like to see the display on a tablet or MFD. I hate to toss out a functioning system to upgrade, so I keep holding off.
