Icom M803 GPS input from NMEA

I have a new ICOM M803 SSB and having difficulty using the NMEA GPS data from my Raymarine system. I am trying to get the signal through the coax connector on the main box of the SSB with no luck. The output I am using is from my Raymarine AIS. The radio does work with the small GPS receiver stuck up in a deck light...not my preferred method.

your AIS is probbaly trasmitting at high speed. the ssb is only going to accept at 4800 baud

I know the 802 is picky and only accepts a single gps setance. I'm not sure about an 803

Re: Icom M803 GPS input from NMEA

Hi there
What is the model # of the Raymarine AIS.
Generally, the AIS transceiver can send (output) low speed (4800 baud) data but, the caveat is that the NMEA0183 data sentences should include the following, for your M803 to display GPS lat/long, and time:
GGA, GLL, GNS, RMC, VTG.
From memory, GGA is the sentence that will provide position and time.
Having said that, unless I know the AIS model you are using, I cannot provide you with a solution for the correct wiring output from your AIS to the M803.
Cheers
