ICOM M803 and RigPi station server

I spent a fair amount of time integrating my Icom M803 with a RigPi station server. Thought I would share the results. I put together a slide deck with pictures

The RigPi integration adds a nice soundcard interface to the M803 with added VFO controls and digital mode apps for decoding weather broadcasts.

I contributed a new Icom M803 driver to the hamlib repository which enabled this integration to work. See slide deck for details.

If I get the time, I might add a narration to the slides and convert to video. I could only fit so much information on the slides.

Here is a link to the deck in PDF format: (too large to attach)

10 Slide deck image links below. Not sure this will work.. but here goes.

The image links in original post did not work. Attached is the interface diagram.

While I do recommend purchasing the MFJ-1234, you could also build this setup with an rpi and soundcard and manually install the opensource software and drivers. There is a new rpi4 and numerous inexpensive USB sound cards are available.

Re: ICOM M803 and RigPi station server

Hi Kube,

Thanks for adding the m803 support, that will keep the hamlib attractive for future marine ssb users!
Did you use the NMEA protocol for the integration?

Maybe you can point me in the right direction to make an remote interface cable for the m802?
I don't quite know where to start right now.

The rigpi seems to be a great piece of gear for a Poweruser but that might be a bit too much for me.
I'd be happy to use the inbuilt soundcard and control the m802 remotely via laptop.

Cheers

Will
