Re: Icom 802 Speech Compression

Ab,
Please have a professional / Icom dealer do this...do not do it yourself...

Ab
Icom supplies this software (called cloning software) to dealers.
The reason the software is restricted is, there are many things that this software is used to configure / program / change, and those unfamiliar with it (and unfamiliar with HF radio) could change things that they do NOT want changed, as well as allow the radio to do things / transmit on freqs that will interfere with other users/services!

Re: Icom 802 Speech Compression

It would be cheaper to buy another 802 as there is no dealer where the boat is!!!!!
The early version of the software that I have that doesn't have the correct option appears very basic, and I'm no IT guru.
Can't believe the marine world, spent 25 years using an hf radio all other the world pretty much every time at work, never did any course, but was fully licensed, do a tedious 4 day course for a uk long range license.
Am I missing something.

Re: Icom 802 Speech Compression

Ab,
I feel for your situation, but am confused...
I have no idea where you are, but there are Icom dealers (and service centers) worldwide.

Whomever you bought the M-802 should have done this for you, already??
But, certainly the dealer who you bought the radio from, can do this for you, now??
Or have you moved the boat too far away from there already?

There are only two versions of the CS-802 software (at least that I've seen), and both have pretty much the same capabilities....but only work with their respected versions of radios...
But, I'm no IT guy either...just an RF guy!!!
And, if you do a google search, you can find the CS-802 on a CD, for about $20 - $30...

Ab, not sure I understand your point / your question here??
But, yes you are missing something!
There are vast differences between using a radio, and programming, setting-up, a radio...and small differences in licensing rules/regs from one country to the other...(in actuality the US is one of the most lax in this area...mostly because of the high number of pleasure boats / radios, and the costs of training/licensing of all of these boaters would cause them to protest with their votes at the ballot box!! )

Again, I assume the guy who sold you the radio is either refusing to do this for some odd reason, you are now too far away, etc. etc...
But, you've made no mention of this....so, I have no way of knowing....heck, I don't even know where you are, nor what version you have...
So, there's little more that I can do at this time...except tell you that you can find the CS-802 on a CD, sold on-line...

fair winds...
