HF antenna

I am looking at changing my backstay to synthetic line and wondering if I can run a length of wire along it to act as the antenna for my HF.
If so what type of wire would be best, what length would be best (max 70ft) and would this be as good as using the current wire backstay.
Anythiing else I need to consider?
Thanks Pacey16.
