Headset for radio comms between helm and anchor?

We never use our Sena's for anchoring. We find that easy to handle with experience and hand signals.

But the place the Sena's earn their keep is approaching a mooring. On our 55ft boat the person at the helm can't see the mooring over the cabin top for the last 10-15 feet.

When snagging a mooring I'll stand on the bow and talk my wife at the helm onto the pin. Since I am usually holding a boathook with two hands and often down on my knees reaching for the pennant, there is no way to give hand signals or to be heard facing away from her.

I576 vs IC-f60.....preppers like Nextel..... cheaper, smaller, encrypted, extendable antenna, 900 mhz, mile or two range, any headset, usb charging (earlier protocol) so must match charger to nextel phones. carry in bra, pants, pocket. Buy a bunch for $100 in case one gets wet/ goes through laundry.

Ours worked well enough with wired VOX attachments.

Two factors to anticipate: it takes a few seconds for the VOX microphone to actually activate the radio transmission... and it's a one-way street, all users can't talking at the same time.

We began starting each sentence with "One, Two, Three, Four..." so the listener could confirm hearing the first part of the important stuff following. The simplex working was easy enough to deal with.

But we've since found full duplex headsets (Bluetooth, our case) easier, clearer... at much greater cost.
