With raspberry pi the draw is olny about 0.3a so not such a big deal, saying that I've never needed more than a android app. The OP did mention he has a machine running opencpn so by the sounds of it he has all he needs already. Head, imho, isn't so useful, last night I was pointing about 90deg to the anchor with a little wind over tide.

Heading is by definition the direction the bow is pointed. Course is the direction the boat is moving. If your speed is zero, then your course is undefined.
