GPS navigating

Hi all, I commercial fish here in BC, onboard I use a laptop connected to a Garminn stand alone GPS. using Nobeltec Oddyssey nav. program.

I am planning to go offshore in my sailing vessel and am curious as to what the thoughts and recommendations are for GPS world wide navigating. Tablets with downloaded charts, chartplotters, or similar to what I have on the fishboat

I use a laptop with gps puck and the Nimble Navigator nav program.
Its portability suits me.
