GPS Map Receiver

I have alway just navigated with a handheld gps but now am considering a GPS stationary map reciever. Any input on a reasonably priced, functional unit that has world map charts installed from the factory would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: GPS map receiver

AFAIK, charts aren't installed in a GPS receiver from the factory. You have to add a memory chip to the receiver. The purpose is to enable updating the charts by changing the chip.

Indeed, you can purchase a bundle including a receiver and a chip with charts covering a very wide area. I did it, I have all of Europe in a handheld receiver, for a rasonable price. But who could afford legally buying charts covering the *whole world*?
