GPS / Chartplotter Installation Question...

I just got a new Standard Horizon CP180i

The cord that comes with it has several wires in it.

I plan on only using the GPS/Chartplotter feature and nothing else.

Since it has an internal antenna, I should only really concern myself with connecting the power and ground right? I can just cap off the others, right?

Thanks!

Absolutely, just tape them off separate from each other, then in the future if you want to remote the display, connect to a radio or add AIS, they are available.

I agree with Pete, but I would recomend heatshrink and cable ties.Electrical tape becomes and sticky ugly mess in a salt water enviroment.

Ahhhhhhhhhh. I want one!

Is it easy to twiddle the knobs and buttons?

Did you knuckle them for a good deal?

Mark

The knob and buttons feel very responsive, we'll see how they do once I have it hooked up though.

I got it for $369 including shipping

A quick tip for hooking up electronics.
Any place that has a connector, used or not, spray with a dielectric grease. If you have a plastic or rubber cap for unused plugs, use it.

It penetrates and seals the metal from corrosion and also seals the case against moisture intrusion.

Using this trick, my handheld garmin has survived several years mounted on the deck of my kayak! Still going strong.
