I’m looking at my
autopilot options for the
new boat and what I’d really like is a setup like the old
boat. A
motor with built in
gearbox and electromagnetic
clutch, driving a chain connected to a quadrant on the
rudder post.
My old
boat has an elderly Course Master set up in this way, so I went straight to them to see if could buy just the
motor and
gearbox (I’m doing my own
electronics for this project).
They said no worries and promptly quoted me a
price so eye watering I forgot it in self defence.
Later I got chatting to a mate and he reckoned that what Coursemaster was selling was kind of generic, based on the packaging he’d seen years beforehand.
So, can anyone help me track down a non “branded” motor, gearbox and
clutch? The boat weighs in around 12 tons with an unbalanced
rudder, so it needs to have a bit of
power. Closer to 100 watts than 50.
