Extremely useful, if you are in a place like Kiribati or the Marshall Islands. Unfortunately is is rather dear. Has anybody tested this with Barometer Plus?
If you want to roll your own very inexpensively then there are plenty of already written barometer apps on GitHub and the hardware is very inexpensive.

Re: Good android barograph app?

Is the "Barometer+" ap that y'all are talking about this same one:
"
Barometer + pressure tracker
JiedWeather
EveryoneEveryone
5,658
Contains Ads"

Note that it contains ads--so your phone is constantly trying to load ads, wasting power and data. I tried looking for an Android barograph app last year and the closest thing to an "innocent" one that I found was from a university in the US NW. Supposedly, it reports of of your data home, the purpose being so the university can amass barometric pressure data, rather than datamining you. But of course, that means it is still going to be "phoning home" every once in a while.

Finding simple apps, for love or money, has gotten damned hard these days.

Re: Good android barograph app?

I decided to check through the Barometer apps available too, and while there are a lot, many don't have graphs, and almost all don't have a graph widget which means it's necessary to open the whole app regularly for monitoring.

In any case I thought I would quickly post up a few of the more interesting ones that I found. I haven't yet done any long term testing with these apps.

Barometer+
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...aggus.barometr

- Standard app.
- Dial and graph inside app.
- Numerical style widget.
- Free and No ads.
- Last updated May 2015

Barometer Plus
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....barometerplus

- Also standard app, but with a lot more customisation and settings available.
- Dial and graph inside app.
- Numerical style widget.
- Free with Ads. Paid version offered.
- Last updated Sept 2018

This app also offers some nice extras:

- Pressure change warning notification (change rate adjustable).
- Auto find nearest airport to set QNH.
- Attractive modern dial design but still including 'weather icons' for lay users.

Barograph
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...soft.barograph

- Very basic app, and not really very attractive.
- Only graph inside app.
- Graph style widget!
- Free with ads. No paid version.
- Last updated May 2018

This app is not really very attractive compared to the others but it was the ONLY app I found that had a Graph Widget (I think this is crazy, all the apps should offer this). Even if the widget is also not the most attractive either this does at least enable a quick glance on your device home screen to monitor the pressure trend.

Meteogram Weather Widget
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...net.rainwidget

- NOT a barometer app in the true sense, but shows forecast pressure.
- Widget only, no app.
- Graph style widget.
- Free with no ads. Paid version available with more customisation.
- Last updated Jan 2019

This app is a little different only showing a widget in 'metogram' style. It is highly customisable. I turned off most options and changed the colours to see pressure more clearly (and temperature, which I don't think you can turn off).

I have included it because it might be useful to have on the same screen as the Barograph widget to be able to compare the Forecast vs Actual trend.

Meteogram | | Weather | Tides | Widget | App
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ared.meteogram

- NOT a barometer app in the true sense, but shows forecast pressure.
- App and widget.
- Graph style widget.
- Free with no ads. Paid version available with more customisation.
- Last updated Jan 2019

Similar metogram to the previous meteogram widget but also an app and with more options (eg: tides, moon, sun, etc).

Here is a screen shot of the icons as well as the Barograph and the Meteogram Widget. In another post I'll add some other apps that just might be interesting extras.

Typically for few dollars you can remove the ads from most Android apps.

Re: Good android barograph app?

belize-
In the case of that app, there is no ad-free upgraded version available. The general trend for app writers these days is "ads and ad revenue forever!" because it can be so easy and lucrative, compared to anything else.

jmh-
"Barometer+
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...aggus.barometr"

That URL is NOT FOR "BAROMETER+"
It goes to an app with an entirely different name. FWIW.

I'll have to take a look at some of those again. I'd prefer a barograph, because sometimes that tells me more than looking at the sky if I want to know what wx is coming in. But the business of ads, of constant datamining (of which most folks have absolutely no idea how nefarious and subtle it gets to be) makes me prefer to buy a cheap Casio with a barograph display and just put it on the wall.(G)

With apps today, smartphones today, it seems like every time I put my hand in my pocket, I find someone else's hand already in it, "just there to help you check for loose change". Still feels like pickpockets and thieves to me.

Re: Good android barograph app?

Let's get off this subject of ads, it's not directly on the subject of a barograph app.

And I just double checked, the link for Barometer+ is correct, when installed it is titled as such - see my screenshot.

However yes it is not the same Barometer+ as posted earlier in the thread, which is as follows: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...otool.barotool

In any case, neither of those two have been updated since 2015...

Re: Good android barograph app?

I wouldn't hold 2015 against them. If they were polite apps and none of the new system enhancements (i.e. granular permissions) really affected them, even a 100 year old barometer works the same way it always did.(G)

Re: Good android barograph app?

Here is a final screenshot of 3 graph widgets for reference. NB: only ONE is real time from the phone sensor, the other two are a future forecast plus a real time instant pressure for this location (so an internet connection required for both).

But I have again included them because it might be useful to have on the same screen as the Barograph widget to be able to compare the Forecast vs Actual trend.

The two meteogram widgets are highly customisable but I turned off most options and changed the colours to see pressure more clearly.

Barograph (real time)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...soft.barograph

Meteogram Weather Widget
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...net.rainwidget

Meteogram | | Weather | Tides | Widget | App
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ared.meteogram

The settings for this final one are hugely complicated, but do enable you to set the widget to display just how and what you want.
