getting started with an ICOM 710 SSB

I've got really basic questions, our boat was owned in Brazil and a lot of things are in Portugese.

My question is very basic. The previous programmed station selects are both useless and in portugese. I would like to clear the program selects settings the previous user had and program in my own.

Thank you!

Hey Doug - we have a 710 and are also on a learning curve. Reprograming the presets is described in the owners manual you can download from the Icom site here: IC-M710 Downloads - Icom America

If you're desperate enough to read the manual, it
can be found here:

IC-M710 Downloads - Icom America

I believe that the 710 has a proprietary data port which allows an ICOM
dealer to configure the presets all at once. Might be easier to take the
radio to the dealer than to key in your own presets.

FWIW, I found it very handy to set up my own set of weatherfax
frequencies so that I could rotate through them looking for the
best reception.

The EASY Way

Gary Jensen of Dockside Radio (Pactor-II/III Radio Modem sales/support, FCC License filing, Marine SSB & HAM Radio Net schedules/frequencies.) has provided a nifty little guide to programming the M710 and other Icom radios:

M710 Programming

I'd start there.

Thank you everyone! The docksider guide is very useful and the user manual. I'll play with the SSB tonight and see if I can bring in VOA or the BBC.
