Garmin Quatix 5

I've been eyeing the Garmin Quatix 3 and now 5 for quite some time. Does anyone use a Quatrix with a non-Garmin plotter/auto-pilot setup? Do all the features integrate with NMEA2000 or does it actually need to be integrated with a Garmin system?

Quatix 3 and 5 are ANT+ and will work only with some Garmin plotters and instruments. The compatibility list is on Garmin web site.

Re: Garmin Quatix 5

Hi everyone,

I am alos thinking one each for myself and wife. We have a full set of Garmin instruments and autopilot, so interfacing shouldn't be a problem.

The value seems to be in the MoB alarming function, as it would seem this would eliminate the need for a separate MoB alerting device such as the ACR AISLink beacon.

Thoughts ?

Re: Garmin Quatix 5

My (much) better half and our daughter gave me a Quatrix for Father's Day and it's capacities are impressive. What is not impressive is its endurance when using any of them. I've found the watch quickly exhausts itself and needs be recharged which seems to take a fair amount of time unless all of its functions save time keeping are disabled. On a cruise, the thing seems to spend as much time on the Nav table, plugged into a cigarette outlet charger adapter, as it does on my wrist.

FWIW...

Roger that Glenn-- I use it mostly for time-keeping, sun and moon rise and set in "GPS Tools", tide predictions, and speed, heading and barometer readings (since I can't see our Barometer from the Nav Table) when I do hourly log entries. Having had one, rec'd as a gift, I wouldn't buy another if need arose as I can get all of the foregoing from a much less costly hand-held GPS device these daze.

FWIW...
