We've owned a DeLorme InReach since they first came out. Agree with all the great things others have said, above. Basically I describe it as a
satellite phone without the
phone part; just text. The "breadcrumb"
tracking on a web site is a bit crude, but folks back on shore like to follow along.
The only caution I'd add is that
Garmin is famous for
buying companies and laying off all the support and development staff. That certainly happened with DeLorme here in
Maine.
Garmin really hasn't done much with InReach beyond what DeLorme already had in the pipeline. If things go as usual, I'd expect better products to come along from other vendors.
In other words, InReach was, and still is, a great product. But if I were in the market today I'd be on the lookout for whatever comes next.
