Garmin fake ethernet?

Does anyone know if there is a way to bypass the "trigger" to turn on devices like radar/transducers on a garmin marine network without using their overpriced GMS10? Trying to use a tablet for second screen wasn't reliable at the helm, so I added a second plotter, so now I need to network radar/sonar/both plotters. I have NMEA2000 of course, but that isn't all the data.
I was "hoping" to just use a cheap ethernet switch in the cabin and not have to spend 250$ then more for overpriced ends in an inside environment. But it looks like it uses pin 5 to toggle devices on and off, which isn't a pin that's used in ethernet?
If not, i'm gonna try and play sniff/see what happens this weekend when I get back to the boat.
