Garmin 741 and wind transmitter help needed

I recently installed a Garmin 741xs on my boat, and I already have a TackTick/Raymarine T120 wireless wind transmitter. The Garmin is supposed to display wind and communicate wirelessly with instruments. My question is: Will my Raymarine T120 transmitter communicate wirelessly with my chartplotter and how do I go about setting it up since Garmin offers no info on wireless setup in their manual? In advance, thanks for any help or advice.

I don't think they will talk to each other

Does the Ray device speak SeatalkNG, Seatalk or NMEA0183?

What does the Garmin speak? I believe the 741 is NMEA2000. If so then if the Ray does SeatalkNG, then they can communicate using NMEA0183.

The Garmin has NMEA 2000 and the Raymarine is wireless. The Garmin is supposed to connect wirelessly to other equipment, but there is nothing in the manual about what it will connect to or how to set it up. The Garmin does have a "wind" display showing wind direction and speed (true and apparent) but no explanation on how to get the info to it.

Re: Garmin 741 and wind transmitter help needed

My Garmin Wireless wind instrument is actually a NEXUS device (Garmin bought them) and has a 'Protocol Converter' to translate the Nexus data to NMEA2000.

From what I can find, the 741xs 'wireless' is talking about Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, not proprietary instrument protocols.

I would guess that you need something similar to what I have to convert your wind instrument's signals to NMEA2000.

For anyone else that may encounter this problem, this is the response I received from the Raymarine Help forum :
"The TackTick T120 Wireless Wind Transducer cannot directly communicate with any devices other than TackTick equipment. However, should the TackTick system include a TackTick T122 Wireless Interface, then the NMEA 0183 Output Terminals of the T122 may be interfaced to the NMEA 0183 input leads/terminals Raymarine and third party product also having a NMEA 0183 communications interface to support communications between the TackTick system and the Raymarine or third party product."

Re: Garmin 741 and wind transmitter help needed

OK so I have achieved connection of my tacktick wind instrument to my garmin chartplotter.
The tacktick has its own proprietry wireless communication with their base station (not the wind display) which then outputs wind data on NMEA0183.
My Garmin chartplotter can read both NMEA0183 and NMEA2000 and will in fact act as a bridge between the 2 communication networks.
Hope that helps.

Fine. But this is wired. OP wanted a wireless connection I think.

I think this is no do then without a ton of hardware in between.
