Furuno wireless radar?

DRS4 unit caught my attention. Terrible fog in Bay of Fundy/East coast Canada, that's my justification and I'm sticking to it. Anyone using this unit, noted 4Kw, 24n-m range. opinions welcome as well. Says i-phone/Pad compatible presently. tx

Re: Furuno wireless radar?

It's come up a few times, but as it is only Ipad / phone, I think that discourages people, I thought about it myself and decided to go the integrated plotter / Radar route, with a way to connect via Wifi to an Ipad / phone

Re: Furuno wireless radar?

I have a new Furuno Wireless Radar sitting under the Christmas tree as we speak...
It is Ipad/Iphone compatible.
There are currently TWO applications that can be used with it....The Furuno Marine Radar App (Just a plane Jane radar return) AND now Nobeltec TZ App.
The NobeltecTZ app allows radar output to overlay raster type charts...It has some neat capabilities...3D, Raster charts with (offline) Satellite shoreline overlays etc.

There is a lot of talk about screen (sunlight glare) but i dont plan to use it when the sun shines. I use an Ipad for a lot of my navigation requirements. As you stated you were held up by"downeast" fog...So did I this past summer (Stuck for 4 days...but fun).
I can state that in "bad weather" (overcast conditions) i have no issues with "Sun Glare" while using an Ipad...

Hope this helps...Haven't used it yet but i'm confident it will fit my bill..Coastal Cruising and if the forecast calls for bad weather..I can stay put.

Bill

Leave an extra couple of mince pies and a really large glass of sherry out for some insurance, and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Re: Furuno wireless radar?

The downside to the wireless unit is that while it is listed ad a 4kw unit it has a horizontal beam width of 7.2* as compared to the standard drs4 that had 4* horz width.

I am trying to understand.... If you had the Touch 2 with the standard drs4 radar.....would that combo not also give you "wireless capabilities"?
