Furuno NN3D MFD Firmware Update v2.11

The FurunoUSA product pages for the MFD8, MFD12, and MFDBB have links (under the Software tab) to v2.11 Version History and Update Instructions, so it looks like the update will be available very soon.

Unfortunately some of the more common complaints may not have been resolved. The solution to the current/tides being left on causing crashes appears to be "fixed" by automatically turning off the current/tide icons after 20 minutes.

Once the firmware is available we need to dissect it...

I read that 'fix' yesterday. Not sure I like it. When I turned on an overlay, I expect it to stay on until I turn it off.

So as one is cruising a coast, you have to continually verify whether the overlay is on or off as you look for a tide station.

In practice it looks like the operator has to turn it on each time they look at it, unless they are constantly checking. I can see this as a temporary patch if posted shortly after the problem was reported; at this point they should have posted a fix for the underlying problem. Not a good start.

Where? MyNavnet says my system is up to date. All I can find are the update installation instructions.

Thanks. Is "My Navnet" actually useful for anything?

And I see that to install the update, one must do a complete factory reset, which destroys all user settings like pages, data boxes, preferences, etc. Is there a way to back these up? If not, that is a REAL PITA. I know to backup routes and waypoints.

I wonder if the Master Reset kills the Radar alignment settings.

From Furuno's instructions: "The Master Reset will restore every setting (Installation and User settings) to the factory defaults."

And it says that you must go through the entire installation wizard configuration again.

I guess it depends on where the radar alignment settings are stored, since the instructions also say to unplug the ethernet cable.

Re: Furuno NN3D MFD Firmware Update v2.11

The master reset did not change the radar alignment.

I backed up the 'user settings' and restored them on 1 of 3 MFDs. It brought back all the data boxes. The others are no problem to setup.
