Furuno Navtex NX300 antenna

Hi All,
just looking for some advise; my Furuno navtex has been playing up and on examination it was found the cable exiting the antenna is well and truly chaffed through and letting in plenty of moisture.
a new Furuno antenna is hugely expensive compared to some un-named types available on ebay and the like.
has anyone experienced the same issue and if so which route did you choose may i ask?
also see Nasa Marine offer a 'H' vector navtex antenna for approx £60, anyone have any experience with this?
advise would be greatly received,
Phil(UK)

Phil, did you ever get an answer somewhere if not here?

Our Nx-300 seems fine but does not receive and I do think the antenna is faulty. Can the Nasa H be made to work? Perhaps by changing the connector?

Kind regards, Franziska

Hello Francisca,

No, I never received a reply from any source.

I spoke to Nasa marine and they ‘suggest’ their antenna should work, but at that time a found second hand Furuno NX300 antenna on eBay, so purchased that.

Regards

Phil

Re: Furuno Navtex NX300 antenna

Hi Franziska,

After buying a replacement antenna I did take the lid off of the top of my old antenna, which wasn’t too easy! and it was definitely the chaffed cable which has caused the problem.
There was no water ingress whatsoever.

It would be possible to attach a new cable and then seal (epoxy) the whole thing back together again 👍

I believe I still have it somewhere in my shed (?)

You’re welcome to it if it is of any use to you??🤔

Cheers

Phil 😁

Hi Phil thanks a bunch. That's very kind of you.
Before I'll take you up on this I'll try to fix ours.
We're at anchor in 40kn of gusts of wind at the northern most tip of Sardinia.

As the base unit is in good condition and the winds will stay with us until Monday evening, there is enough time to see if I can fix ours by opening it up [emoji6]
You gave me the courage to try.

How did you take it apart? Do you have a picture of the parts? Might be easier to take apart if I know where the seam line is..
