Talking Furuno NavnetVX2

Hi,
I have an intersting problem with a Furuno VX2 from 1997.
It has been working for many years with out any problems.
Beginning last year the AIS tagets disappeared and "goto quickpoint" stopped working when enabled to the autopilot. This only happened when getting close to shore :-) (On open sea not many targets close to shore 150 or more)
Had a discussion with Furuno service and the told me that I had to clear the memory and limit the number of AIS tagets and range to below 50/10Nm.
Did so with no luck. AIS targets were x out but checking the data on the AIS port still gave all info.
Second try with Furuno and now they had contacted Japan. The answer from them was that the VX2 can only handle a maximum of 100 targets!! After that the processor stopes.
I did a test putting a "bad" AIS antenna at deck level and the it works.
The advice from Furuno is the get a device that takes care of the numbers of AIS targets that are coming from the AIS before getting to the VX2 (or buy an new "modern unit")!!!
That is not a very easy thing because the unit has to calculate both my own position and the VDM position and select only targets that are for example 10Nm from me!!
Better to run OpenCPN
Fair winds
