Furuno LS4100 problem

FIrstly I tried the search forum function and its hopeless!! Hundreds of returns, none with the full search criteria.

Anyway I have the LS4100 with the Airmar 525st-MSD bronze sensor, bought less than 18 months ago. For some time now the temp was erratic then not working at all. Speed log also stopped. A new sensor is about USD285.

Does anyone have experience of this unit, can it be repaired? I somehow doubt it as the cable is moulded into the top.

I am hauling out next week so need to make a decision soon on whether to buy one or not.
