Furuno DRS4W

I have a month or so ago installed a Furuno DRS4W Radar utalising a Ipad as my monitor/screen.

I am having a lot of trouble getting things set up on the Ipad no mater how I set the settings in "tools" it makes no difference what range settings I use, no matter what rain settings I use auto or manual with or without target zone my vessel is continiously surrounded by clutter as if I am in a lagoon!!! I have vessels passing within 100m of my vessel and not showing and am sure that today a vessel passing to starboard showed on port!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am totally vexed as to what is going on, its must be my settings but I have tried all ways. My scanner is facing forward!!!!!

Re: Furuno DRS4W

Based on your description, it sounds as if you have not set up the radar properly. There is a setting called heading angle. Play with it to make sure that what you see on the radar ahead is also ahead of the ship. Then there is a set of adjustments such as gain, clutter, sensitivity - you need to ake sure all of these are on Auto. Also play with them to get a feel what they do. It is best to get a radar book (search online, there are a bunch of free ones) and read about the various adjustments and what they do to the signal.
