Furuno 1722 Marine Radar

I am new to to Cruisers Forum, so I apologize for my inexperience in creating a thread without understanding how to search for existing discussions on my subject.

I welcome any suggestions and guidance.

I have a still in the box 15 year old Furuno Radar set up, 18 inch antenna, Model 1722 Display and a GPS Antenna with bare wired requiring a plug to connect to the Display. I have no RADAR experience. I have been reading the Operator's Manual which covers a series of 1700 models. It is very difficult to understand, even though I consider my self technically adept.

Is there some way I can get some help? I am not interested in the sounder function, but I would like to run the RADAR and the PLOTTER.

The display has a slot for a chart card, but I do not have a card. I am not sure how to get one, or what to ask for. Being up to date is not a significant concern as I have a small chart plotter aboard. I have a lot of experience with paper charts and back up my electronic navigation the old fashioned way.

How can I find out more about my system and how to operate it?

I plan to mount the Radar antenna on a pole at the sterm of my sailboat.
