I don't know. I will start logging it.

Meanwhile I'll add some ferrite beads at the pilot computer side.

No noticeable interference with the network -- which is great. That expensive N2K cable seems well shielded.

And what's better -- no noise at all on the radio from shipboard equipment.

I hope you are using the right ferrite. Mix 43 is best for HF.

If you are getting interference on the autopilot look at the indicated direction on the display while the autopilot is on standby. If the course shown jumps around during transmit the compass wiring or the compass itself is the issue. Several turns of the wire through the ferrite is best. Get the right mix and a size that will allow many turns through the ferrite.

Re: Ferrite Beads on HF Radio Installation

The problem with the many turns is cable length. If he does not have that much cable then he will be limited. I would think some snap on type would work. I cannot say how many because I don't know. But probably enough to quash in problem.

I would agree that in this case ferrite beads would probably be the best course of action.

Very true. However, multiple passes through one ferrite is like multiplying the benefit. Three turns is three times as good as one. Using the right mix is critical. Using a ferrite for VHF frequencies on HF will accomplish almost nothing.

Thanks very much; useful.

Compass is not the problem -- I have a satellite compass.
