Re: External alarm buzzer for Matsutec AIS HP-528A
GILow and Emmalina, HP-33A is completely different than HP-528A ref external alarm. Please, if you can, delete your posts, because they are misleading.

Oops! Sorry, I didn't read the subject line properly, I thought this was about the HP-33a. Sadly, can't delete posts after a few minutes, so they are stuck.
Couldn't find the manual for the 528, but I would not be surprised if it had the same settings as the 33a. Certainly worth checking in software if you have not already.

Sorry I was informed it is the same hardware just in a different layout it certainly looks like the same software . Apparently customers wanted the buttons to the side rather than underneath .

That might explain why Matsutec does not appear to have a manual for the 528A on its web site?
GHRT, have you tried downloading the 33A manual and seeing if the menu item to turn on the external alarm exists in the 528A software?

Re: External alarm buzzer for Matsutec AIS HP-528A
Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum, and I can see that I am facing a problem some of you faced before me...
I have a Matsutec Hp-528, and I cannot hear the alarm when sailing... So I was hoping to add an external alarm, but it seems not easy...
As anyone finally found a good solution ?
Thanks in advance
Best regards

Re: External alarm buzzer for Matsutec AIS HP-528A
The solution seems to be to solder an external low powered buzzer to the existing one. Polarity is important here!
I don't know why people still call this a Matsutec
The HP-528A is a nameless cheap Chinese copy of the original Taiwanese Matsutec AIS unit, same software and different plastic box.--> The name "Matsutec" is mentioned nowhere, neither on the unit nor in the paper manual.

Interesting how all these listings mention external buzzer.
Maybe they have very recently changed?

Re: External alarm buzzer for Matsutec AIS HP-528A
I have a reply from their tech support. I haven't checked yet but I will, I plan to use a car horn that I have around somewhere.

Use this pair to control external buzzer.
pin 10 :external alarm control signal
pin 3: ground
As this pair is just a 3V control signal, You may need an optional relay or an amplitifier to drive your external buzzer.

Ummmm.... you might want to warn boat guests beforehand. But why would you use something like that? You’ll need a relay or a big mosfet to drive it Why not any super loud piezo style buzzer? Some will wake the dead

Re: External alarm buzzer for Matsutec AIS HP-528A
I already have the relay, horn and a switch - it will be ON only during longer passages. In harbour and nearby it starts all the time, indeed.

Re: External alarm buzzer for Matsutec AIS HP-528A
Looks like connection is between 1 & 10, 3.2V, 0.7mA (miliamps) .
Do you have any idea what to use at this power level? My relay's coil wants 360mW, I thought it is small )

A small mosfet and a piezzo would be my approach.

Re: External alarm buzzer for Matsutec AIS HP-528A
Or a solid state relay. Might be easier.
