Engine Room Camera

I recently installed Starlink and now have a good Wifi source for the boat.

I am using the Ring Doorbell camera at home, and was thinking of installing one or two of the Ring Cameras in the engine space of our boat.

After a little research, I am not sure this will work.

A few questions:

Can you use two different Wifi's on the Ring App for their cameras? IE, one at a dirt home, and one on board a boat?

Has anyone done this?

Yes, two different accounts. Haven’t tried doing in on home account but it does provide for multiple cameras so assume it’s possible.

The research vessel I ran had ER and work deck cameras fed to the Raymarine chart plotter. Hard wired, no wifi needed. And the ER camera was infrared so hot spots would show up way before smoke would. I'd recommend that no matter what system is used.

You don’t want any cameras that can’t save locally or to a network storage

And if you go with something like ring have you read the privacy agreement and understand it?

Seems like a cost effective way to keep tabs on a boat several hundred miles away.
My concern about ring is not who would see an empty salon on a daily basis. But what are they collecting with their app.

At my house I run everything through Apple HomeKit and block everything else
Apple provides end to end encryption

For cameras I’ve been using Aqara brand, decent and cheap

The Ring Cam appears to be a good use case for my needs. I am not a research vessel and don’t get caught up on big brother breaking through the security. I just want to peek in to the ER on occasion with a basic camera to check on the engine space and equipment. A lot of people use simple cameras on trawler rec boats. YEs, I do routine physical checks while underway, it’s just another tool.

Back to my question: has anyone done with this two different accounts using the Ring App?
