Em-Trak B100 to Matrix GX2100 VHF NMEA problem

Hi,
Has anyone had any success in connecting the the NMEA port 2 (4800) on their Em-Trak B100 AIS transceiver to their Standard Horizon Matrix GX2100 NMEA in port?

What I'm trying to accomplish is to get the AIS to feed GPS coordinates to the VHF radio.
Today I'm letting my plotter feed the coordinates to the radio and that works but I'd like to be able to have just the radio turned on when in the marina and with my current configuration the VHF starts an alarm every now and then if it's not getting GPS coordinates feed to it.

I have turned on RMC sentences in the Em-Trak unit via the software that came with it.

I did it with a 2150. So I'm not positive about the 2100 but I don't think you can do AIS at 4800, I think you need to set the radio nmea input to 38,400

Thanks Xymotic!

I don't think the 2100 NMEA input rate can be changed

So you set up your B100 to feed your VFH with GPS coordinates?
Did you have to install extra hardware like a resistor between the NMEA grounds?
What sentences did you turn on in the B100?

I set mine up the other way, GPS goes to the radio and the emtrack.

then n2k emtrack to chartplotter.

Re: Em-Trak B100 to Matrix GX2100 VHF NMEA problem

Problem solved!

To enable GPS sentences on NMEA port 2 on the B-100 AIS you need to fist apply a secret configuration file.
The file can be found here: Outputting GPS data from your B100 to external devices : em-trak product support

Another problem you'll most likely run into when starting to use the NMEA port 2 is that it will disable the USB connection on the B100.
My solution to this was to leave the NMEA (-) floating (aka not connected).

If you want to save power I highly recommend adding 3.2kOhm (or similar) resistors in series with the NMEA connections as they are by default poorly insulated.

Good luck!
