Electronic displays in the winter

The previous owners of my sailboat said it was important to remove all electronics (radar display, chartplotter display) and bring them into the house for the winter. He said that the freezing in the winter will damage them. Is this true? The displays are from the late 1990s--the monochrome LCD kind.

Not true. While operation of LCD's can become quite sluggish at low temp's, they won't freeze unless the temp goes below around -40F

Of course removing them for the winter does help with keeping them from getting stolen. I hate having to think that way, but some people can't keep their fingers off things that belong to others for some reason.
