There seems to be a dearth of information about reprogramming
VHF sets for the
VHF Data Exchange Services which is taking a number of analogue voice channels out of
service to be used for digital data.
I have Navman 7100s which the
service manual shows connects to a PC via the
GPS connection. But the manual doesn't have any details of the connection protocol or what
software is needed. It can't be that complicated as reprogramming can be done while one waits.
Quite why this is needed is a mystery - I've managed for years not to transmit voice on Ch70, the
DSC channel!
