DIY KISS HF ground

At my home shack I needed to test something and threw 25 feet of CAT5 out the door on damp ground for a temporary counterpoise. I stripped all the wires and crimped them all into one fitting at the tuner end.
To my surprise it worked quite well

So.....I got an idea to get various lengths of CAT5 and make a KISS ground, essentially for free because I have a ton of leftover cables.
Anyone ever try this?

Re: DIY KISS HF ground

I used one at home with various lengths of 18AWG wire. Easy to do if one buys 'door bell' 8C wire (8C being the number of conductors). Worked really well for my 106' random length wire antenna. Even worked for my 35' random length antenna.

Here is some reading on the 'DIY KISS Counterpoise'.
