I think he is saying that it is a "new" as in "new in the box", not a refurbished unit. I think the term is "new old stock". They are Zeus Touch 12's which are a generation older than the current Zeus^2 units. The Zeus^2's have faster processors and may render images (charts) more quickly.

I meant that the Zues Touch 12 has a slower processor than the current Zues ^2, 12.
This has come from several sources. One being on this thread.

I see that Defenders has several Zues Touch 12's on their site.
MFP's 000-11181-001 & MFP 000-11109-001 / 000-0132-05 , with different prices.
I have not researched the difference between these two.

The second one includes a broadband fishfinder, thus the higher price.

This is the one I was looking at. It was on sale for $200 less, ending November 30.

Re: Difference between B&G Zeus Touch and Zeus2?

hello forum! New Jeanneau 349 owner here. Mine came with a B&G T7 but from what I've heard the Zeus2 is a significant improvement over the first generation.

I am considering swapping out the Zeus with the Zeus2 (both the 7" model). Does anyone know of this is possible from a cut out standpoint or are the sizes not compatible?

Allriiight, you should be able to get the mounting templates of both models on the B&G web site. Go to bandg.com, click on Support, then Downloads, then Manuals, then select the Zeus model of interest, to get the PDF of the installation guide. I installed a Zeus2-12 under the aft end of our cockpit table a year ago and it's worked quite well, other than ceasing to talk N2K due to transmit errors (it's at B&G for repair at the moment). I'm looking at putting a Vulcan 7 at each helm in lieu of Triton displays and autopilot controllers, if it fits.

Looks to me like the Touch 12 obviously has a rotary dial and a few keys but main use is through touchscreen, hence the name. I've read some comments that its difficult to use touchscreen in any rough sea.

I need to replace my AP very soon and want it integrated with the chartplotter. I like a rotary dial for AP course changes. So far I've found the choice for me is new tech Zeus2 9" (VGA) at $2000 vs. "old" tech Zeus Touch 12 (XVGA) at $919. I have lots of time for map redraws and I like the higher resolution on the T12 but I actually dislike touchscreens - on my Windows10 PC I don't use it at all.

Any comment?

I have the Zeus2 and its mainly touchscreen operation. The rotary dial zooms in and out, but doesn't move the map around. Maybe there is a setting to change it, but I don't think so.

I have now ran the Zeus2 (7") for over 1500nm and have been happy with it. I have used it in some very rough seas and although it was harder than operating it anchor, it wasn't as hard as people are making out.

Re: Difference between B&G Zeus Touch and Zeus2?

Zeus12T is slower startup & redraw but very tolerable. I think the newer ones ^2 support Navionics charts, not sure about the ZeusT12 though.
Sailsteer on ^2 is a little more sophisticated, re leeway sensors etc. but T12 sailsteer is quite good.

Re: Difference between B&G Zeus Touch and Zeus2?

ZeusT12 + 4G got a great Defender deal last fall and Z12T cost about $500 + $1600 for radar. Cost of n2k converters and connections adds up, but it has a starter kit n2k.

Just finished three months cruise from Texas thru Bahamas to Georgetown and back. No issues ever with touchscreen. None. Zeus2 with the few buttons is ergonomically excellent. Rarely use the rotary knob.
