Hello newbie here! Just purchased 30' sloop, Barberis Show 30. Unfortunately the Datamarins S200-DL depth finder is shot. I have read the DMI repairs these units and may also have replacement units (Phoenix), but was curious about installing a Garmin GPSmap 740 with hull mount transducer- but everything I read talks about power boats.
Any advice? Thanks

Re: Depth Sounder

I have a GPSMAP with the transducer mounted at the base of the transom. Came with plenty of cable to run it back to the unit. Works like a charm. Charts installed. Hooked up to my AIS and my autohelm very easily.
And it was cheap.

Thanks! Does the transducer mount to the inside of transom, or behind on bottom of Hull?
Really appreciate the assistance.

Re: Depth Sounder

On the outside... in the wet stuff. Transducer needs to be in the water.
Mine is in the centre but it doesn't really need to be. It hangs below the line of the hull just slightly. Doesn't foul anything on my setup and works fine.
Couple of stainless screws did the job. Initially i ran the cable up the outside but then i drilled a small hole and fed it through. Easy job.
