Decent Case for Laptop?

Looking for a case for our laptop while cruising. Laptop will be onboard and secured when in use its when we want to take it ashore that Im concerned. Its a 17" screen. Picked up a Pelican case model 1600 but its overkill and really too big to be practical. Would like something thats waterproof and stores well when not in use. Thought about a dry bag but was sort of hoping for something with a little shock protection.

What do others use that works well for transporting the laptop ashore and back?

Re: Decent Case for Laptop?

Pelican makes slim laptop specific cases that are not big and bulky like the 1600 case. They are not much bigger than the laptop itself and they are still watertight and very shock resistant.

These looked like a decent option but I haven't personally tried one.

I would go for a nice sleeve or minimal bag like used for MacBooks and put the laptop in a ziplock bag before putting it in he sleeve. The 2 gallon bags fit.

The Pelican cases are great aboard, no money wasted on that!

cheers,
Nick.

Re: Decent Case for Laptop?

I use a Pelican 1495* for my 17" MacBook Pro, and had used it for my previous computer. (*It is the older style with only 2 latches). It says something when the case outlasts the computer it is protecting.

I might be getting a Pelican 1514 for my birthday present... which will allow me to bring my camera gear and laptop in the lid all in one case.

Re: Decent Case for Laptop?

My Pelican case has outlasted three laptops. It's definitely airtight. I found that if I closed it when the barometer was on the low side, I'd have a devil of a time opening it if the atmospheric pressure had risen.
