cutting a transducer cable and connecting it to a new display or chart plotter?

The screen on our old Standard Horizon CPF 180i chart plotter is going bad. We really only use it for depth readings because we use a weatherized tablet and wireless AIS and Radar for navigation that displays on our phones and weatherised tablets. I am trying to figure out if I can cut the transducer cable and rewire it to a different display?

Perhaps just a simple digital depth read out like Hawkeye DEPTHTRAX 2B?

It is an Airmar transducer with a part #20-426-01 I tried to look up the part number on the airmar website and was not able to find anything.

I am pretty sure the model is DST520 it is a 600w 200/50kHz transducer. I found the DST520 on the Airmare website and their is a wiring number, D-91-464, but this is not a link to a wiring diagram.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Re: cutting a transducer cable and connecting it to a new display or chart plotter?

Yes, the transducer cable can be cut*, and spliced.
However, if the transducer came with a connector do not cut it off. The moulded on connector is waterproof.
You need to cut and splice the cable away from the connector, using Airmar's splash-proof Junction Box. The connections will not corrode and the strain relief grommets are water resistant, and have excellent cable retention.
Please note that cutting the cable or removing the connector, except when using Airmar's junction box [& splice kit], will void the sensors warranty.

*If you have a TRIDUCER multi-sensor [depth, speed, and/or temp], the ceramic element inside builds up a charge. When the cable is cut, it can discharge, possibly disabling the speed sensor.
You need to slit the outer insulation so that you can cut each wire individually. If this is not done, any residual charge from the tranducer ceramics may destroy the speed/ and/or temp sensors.
