CP500 Card Update?

I recently boat a boat and it came with a Standard Horizon CP500 chartplotter.
The card thats in it works just fine for the local lakes I usually boat on but this fall we will be heading down the ICW to the Bahamas.
I would like a card(S) that will give the the most recent info for those areas.
However I seem to be having a hard time even finding somewhere to purchase new or updated cards. Are they obsolete??
The S.H. website is of no use at all unless you want a manual.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Re: CP500 Card Update?

Have you considered using OpenCPN which has free charts. (you can do a test chart download on your home computer)

I haven't downloaded charts for the Bahamas yet, but I would think you could.

I have downloaded free OpenCPN charts for the Chesapeake Bay, Chesapeake Bay entrance and out maybe 20 miles into the Atlantic Ocean to south of the Outer Banks and Cape Hatteras

I have considered Open CPN and downloaded the PC version but I have to say I am totally unimpressed.

Maybe its just to fancy for me but I can't seem to make it work or understand how to use it at all.
I do plan on using a tablet to have Navionics and perhaps other navigation software.
I also wanted to have my current chart plotter fully updated as well.

Thanks

According to this it takes c-map max cartography.

https://www.standardhorizon.com/down...pplication/pdf

Ergo, you should purchase appropriate c-map cards for the charts you wish to possess.

Thanks for the help I do appreciate any response but I do have the manual so I was aware it takes a C-map card.

What I cannot figure out is where I can purchase a C-card or update my existing one. Standard Horizon only has links to the manual but nowhere to purchase the card itself. When I use their "Dealer Location" link it gives no answer.

Thanks again.

You can get C-map charts through "the Binnacle" or check with "the rigging shoppe" in Toronto

It's up to you, but I can't see how you can be unimpressed if you haven't actually seen one of the charts on there yet.?

Sorry to hear that though as it is totally free.

Btw, most folks run it using a small Raspberry pi computer which can be bought for around $50.00 then if you want you can use the wifi to communicate with your tablet.

Again all the charts are free........download as needed.

Sorry to offend the CPN crowd but I am unimpressed.

I have tried it on my PC and downloaded a few free charts.
I find it hard to understand, hard to use and I don't care that its free.
I am sure it suits other people just fine but I would rather pay for something I understand, can operate and enjoy using.

No offense taken and I'm very new at using it.......in the learning stages actually.

It can be strange at first, but it seems fun to me just to make it work as advertised especially on the little Raspberry Pi Computer
