Connecting old readouts to New Raymarine system

I am currently in the process of upgrading the electronics on my 1992 Beneteau First 53f5

I purchased a Raymarine kit to get the ball rolling, including

New masthead unit
I70s Multifunction readout for the cockpit
ITC-5 Instrument Transducer converter
DST-800 Triducer

I plan to add a new Axiom 9 MFD when funds allow.

My question is:

The existing mast readouts are B&G 20/20 displays that still work, is it possible to get these displays to show the data from the new Seatalk NG network?

I have found lots of info about connecting old tranducers, masthead units etc to a new network, but can't find anything about connecting old displays to it

Thanks in advance

Matt

Re: Connecting old readouts to New Raymarine system

The newer 20/20 displays are NMEA 2000 so would work with SeatalkNg. The older versions were hydra network so they won’t interface

Suggest you contact BG. At one time they offered some adapters to let you you Raymarine wires with BG sending units. Possibilities are there. Most sending units are made by Airmar and private labeled so the basic devices are often the same.

The issue isn’t the sending units the issue is the display.

Re: Connecting old readouts to New Raymarine system

Thanks for the replies guys,

The old B & G stuff is the Hydra 2000 system, so I think it is NMEA 0183 have seen some adapters that will convert the signal I wonder if anyone else has tried and been successful, I am just at the beginning of my marine electronics adventure and trying to learn as fast as I can

Re: Connecting old readouts to New Raymarine system

If the 20/20 displays are Hydra 2000 then they use the proprietary B&G network protocol. If The hydra 2000 processor is still in the system it has nmea inputs and this could be driven from a suitable raymarine instrument

At this stage I wouldn’t bother unless you really want mast head displays. ( or buy new nmea 2K compatible Ones)

All the Hydra stuff is still there, think I will give it a try, the large mast repeaters from Raymarine are ridiculously expensive!

B and G are one of the major vendors of boating instruments (depth, speed, wind, chartplotters.....). Once upon a time it was Brookes and Gatehouse but now I guess they just go by the initials.
