Compass replacement with own made Fuel Gauge

I had issues with my fuel gauge because difficult to read and sometimes stucking.

Therefore I was almost obliged to run always with full tank.

When the compass also cracked I decided to build my own multifunction display mainly for fuel monitoring and consumption optimization but also to replace the dead compass.

The result is not bad IMHO ... any coment?

Here the installation

Here how it works

Re: Compass replacement with own made Fuel Gauge

Looks very good. I also use a home made fuel gauge that the previous owner created. It's a 4ft garden cane with some markings on it. Has proven to be very reliable and probably 35 years old now. Doesn't seem to rot either having been dipped frequently in diesel

Very nicely done! What sensors / transducers did you use for fuel level and flow ?

Re: Compass replacement with own made Fuel Gauge

Hi there,
the fuel level is provided by an ultrasonic sensor A02YYUW, then computed in liters.
The flow rate and related liters per trip are granted by a hall sensor. I've tested on board both BioTech_97478617-FCH and Savant FS-3400AH, they are both working good. Biotech go down to 1,3 liters/h while Savant stop working at 2.5/3 liters/h.

I've spent last ten days with small trips in the Sulcis area ... the reading from level and flow are always coerent and that's make my cruising more relaxed , keeping under control consumption and remaining fuel.
Quite satisfied of the new instrument
