Iridium satellite phone or use Skype (VOIP when you have an internet signal). Our satellite phone is about the same as cell here in the Bahamas if you get a Batelco card. If not, it's about $3.00 per minute. Yikes! I love Skype and wish I could get all of my state-side family to sign up. What I meant to say is that a regular AT&T or Sprint cell phone down here is about $3.00 per minute but the satellite phone is a little over $1.00 per minute which is the same as using your cell phone down here if you get a card and are able to unlock your phone. Iridium is great, have heard nothing but dropped calls from Globalstar. Skype is cheap and is free if you're doing computer to computer calling or instant messaging.

Cell phones? There is a "world phone" you can get that I think handles most cell phone systems but you need an account to use them. Cell phone towers are good to about 20 miles give or take. Unless you are in a given area most of the time cell phones may not prove to be usefull. At sea the clock still works but not the phone.

I believe he is asking for a worldwide cell phone service that will give him internet connections and not just cell service for calls.
