Chart Plotter location

I recently purchased a Garmin 9" chartplotter and would like some thoughts on where to locate it. At the helm would be best for constant viewing but I am uncertain if it is waterproof enough to survive and work here? Also it would need to be removed and stowed when I am not sailing. I see there are plastic protective "boxes" that mount on the binnacle for $450. but I am unsure how I would operate the plotter while in the case? Thanks. I have a Niagara 35.

If it has Wifi.......at the nav station and run a waterproof cased tablet at the helm using its Wifi.....

We have had a Garmin chartplotter (the 555s) at the wheel for 10 years and no problems. We take it off when not using the yacht as it only takes a couple of seconds to fit and connect it up. For pilotage is superb to have the chart plotter directly in front of you. They also dim automatically as dusk draws in which is a nice touch and brighten up as dawn appears.
