Chart plotter having GPS issues - wrong date.

2012 Simrad NSS12 (pre-evo models) w/internal GPS.

No issues until last week when we went out and I noticed no time displayed on screen in any page/display (wte of Satellite view). Also noted GPS receiver icon was RED.

Track data had correct lat/long, but all track points showed 12/31/1969 19:00:01 for date/time. Ran again this week, same symptoms. On Satellites page seeing correct position, and time, but date shows as 27/03/2099.

Any thoughts on correcting would be greatly appreciated. Did a Google search, but not much on this older device.

Thanks to everyone ... Here's the link to the Hull Truth thread

It seems the consensus is batch of bad GPS chips that and manufactures are working on a fix.

If it was a bad chip it had to be in the programming of the chip, not an electronic failure, since we all had the failure at the same time. I begin to doubt that Simrad will do anything about it on units out of warranty. Big black eye for them - unless they fix this, I'm going Garmin from now on.

Re: Chart plotter having GPS issues - wrong date.

Reminds me of an issue with a Micrologic GPS back in 2004 or so. Had my boat all loaded up and set for a trip to the Bahamas and went out and turned things on to leave when the GPS would not work at all. Took all connections apart, checked all splices, uninstalled - reinstalled to no avail. Got out my backup GPS and rewired it to connect to the Navigation stuff ( before I started using Chartplotters ) mostly PC Navigation relying on the external GPS.
So with all the delay decide the go the next day. The next day the Micrologic worked just fine. And did throughout the trip.
Later found out it was a programming issue with Micrologics chip code. Seems like the day I decided to go on my trip was a specific date that the code could not handle. Any other date was fine.
Didn't find out the actual cause until several years later in a product review in a boating magazine.

Re: Chart plotter having GPS issues - wrong date.

E-mailed SIMRAD and received this response ... same as all the other manufactures I'd guess.

"This is still in process with no set ETA. We're working with the GPS chipset manufacturer to try and integrate a fix into our systems."
