Re: Can I connect my fm stereo to my VHF antenna?

FM: All over my land life I get sounds and noise from too many sources.

When I ride my motorcycle I do not want radio; I want only the music of the basso profundo exhaust and the wind.

On and in my sailboat I don't want sources of sound other than the water, wind, sails and the incidental sounds of sailing the boat.

There is an FM radio in the boat but I rarely used it. This year I have tiny flash drives that hold a warehouse full of music when I get the urge. But mainly I like to disconnect. This is me; your life is different. An interesting puzzle for mind exercise at anchor. Experiment with details that experts here have advised, like maybe the right kind of semi-stiff wire stuck into radio, bendy not floppy of right metal, in the right kinds of places, and whatever radioheads recommend. Experimental lengths strung in experimental orientations might capture the waves you want.

Fair winds and fair waves to you, both liquid and ethereal.

Re: Can I connect my fm stereo to my VHF antenna?

Years ago I had a reception problem with my FM receiver and decided to try a vertical dipole to see if it could be improved. I used a length of coax with a couple of pieces of hookup wire about 3' long and insulation taped it to my flag halyard.

I was amazed at the improvement in reception the rube goldberg antenna provided and have used nothing but vertical dipoles ever since. My TV antenna for digital is a couple of pieces of alloy tube in a fibreglass tube from a telescoping paint roller handle mounted at the top of the mast with a coax downlead.

Yeah, I get a real good warm smug feeling and sometimes even smirk every time I participate in a gathering and the subject of antennas comes up and someone complains about their thousand dollar, super duper TV rig which won't pick up a station and mine tunes them all a couple of times over.
