Can Furuno Talk to Raymarine?

does anyone know if the Furuno Weatherfax black box FAX30 can talk to a Raymarine E series chartplotter? The F30 output is ethernet and the E series is "ethernet based"?

(Neither Raymarine nor Furuno have bothered to reply to my query.)

Not through their proprietary languages. The language sent through the ethernet ports are completely different. They though can communicate data using NMEA 0183 or NMEA 2000, provided one has a NMEA out port and the other a NMEA in port.

Call Furuno's tech support number. They won't make you press buttons on the phone for five minutes and then make you wait on hold only to be hung up on after 45 minutes. You can talk to an actual human there very quicky who does not work off of a computer script from Bhopal, India. In my experience, Furuno's tech support is much better than Raymarines's

E-Series won't display FAX30 weather maps

Dennison,
I have both a Raymarine E-120 and E-80 on board.....but not a FAX-30, although I am familar with its operation (I have a seperate dedicated WeFax unit), so I hope I can shed some light....

I'm going to make a quick asumption here.....
Your question of whether they can "talk" to each other, leads me to answer whether the E-series can display weather charts recieved by the FAX-30????

The answer to that is: Probably not....

The Furuno "NavNet" / "NavNet2" network isn't compatible with the propritary Raymarine SeaTalk HS (Hi-Speed) network......

But, the FAX-30 can output to a PC with an standard ethernet jack......
So, you could use a laptop (with web browser) connected to the FAX-30.....

According to Furuno:
On a PC, the images and information are displayed by simply using your Web Browser. There is no complicated proprietary software to install or learn. You can even print all of the information using your PC and printer!

So, unless Raymarine has some software update which allows their E-series displays to operate as a PC with browser (NOT likely ever going to be the case), or they have some software that emulates the Furuno display software (yeah, like that's likely! ), you're not likely to ever be able to get the FAX-30 to display its output on your E-series chartplotter....

Good luck....

John

Great information

John,

Yes, you're correct. Thanks for the great information - I'll proceed with talking to my laptop and endeavour to get the other working in the future if possible.
