Camera for navigation

Has anybody experiemtned with a camera on the spreaders to help with spotting coral heads?

Maybe with a polarizing filter?

There is at least one open thread on this topic

Re: Camera for navigation

See the youtube channel "Sam Holmes Sailing" for the experiences of someone who has done it (though to the masthead). His latest problem is that a spider seems to like crawling around on the camera lens. Otherwise he has been very happy with it. I think he installed it before his recent Atlantic crossing.

Re: Camera for navigation

If you could remote tilt it it would be handy for keeping the anchor chain aligned when pulling the anchor also.

I have one under the bow sprit for exactly that reason but its fixed and not pan/tilt. Gives a view of the lay of the chain and also shows when the anchor is clear of the water.
