Maybe I haven't read the previous links properly but it seemed to me all of the complaints centred around tach's (and mostly those with an LCD centre panel).

Some were about the possible sensor inputs and the others were about the LCD panel (hours etc). I thought the needle functions kept working.

I would be very interested in knowing more detail though i.e. VDO product series and faults in other gauges apart from tachs.

Yep, see post #8, I’m only aware of an issue with the tachos.

I saw a bit of it on a Beta forum which prompted me to have a look around to see if the problem was tied in some way to Beta’s installation methodology. But the problem was being described in many other installations so it does seem to relate to the VDO tacho’s described.

Unfortunately, mine is exactly the sort that are having problems. All I can hope is that mine, being so new, is recent enough that they’ve addressed whatever the problem was.

Is it ok to daisy chain the positive wire to each instrument (then the single wire goes back to the instrument bus bar with the others)

Electrically, you’re fine daisy-chaining the +12v wires. You have to make sure you leave enough slack to disconnect one in the middle and then remove the gauge. Don’t ask me why I know that. A possible minus is that it’s sometimes more difficult to get a good seal when you put multiple wires in a single crimp terminal.

Are all the singleviu range crimp style connectors? Even the small fuel gauges? Hmmm.

AFAIK, the singleviu gauges come with a pre-terminated connectors (MOLEX 334724801). These pigtails that are about 600 - 900mm (2 - 3') long with colour coded 20 gauge wires.

Your job is to connect the far end of the pigtail as required and then plug the pre-terminated connector into the gauge.

There are some fusing requirements but ATM I don't have them handy. Give me a day and I will dig them out and report back.

Here is the user manual https://www.vdo.com/media/746713/en_..._22-201801.pdf

I haven't read it all yet.

You might want to check the tach calibration requirements - it may need to programmed with PC based software.

The guys at the previously posted gauge shop would know for sure.
