Built-in SWR meter in Icom M802?

Hello everyone..
I am far away from this radio and need to know if it is true that it has a SWR meter because I will need to trim/tune a dipole.

I am not interested in the cutoff when SWR is greater than 2; I actually wanto to red SWR values.

Can you please tell me if it is true that the 802 has a built-in SWR meter? If so, how do I use it?

Many thanks
Charlie

Re: Built-in SWR meter in Icom M802?

The M-802 has no true SWR indicator. During transmit, it shows relative power output. During recieve, it shows relative received signal strength.

The "Tune Indicator" shows the antenna tuning condition, and when the "SWR" appears it means the "SWR has worsened". Useless.

From the manual:

"SWR” appears when the antenna SWR worsens during
transmit, depending on the transmit output power. If it
appears, check your antenna system.

I strongly believe that EVERY SSB installation should have a good cross-needle power/SWR meter installed in-line 100% of the time. A good one these days is the Daiwa CN-101L....about $99 online or from HRO, and worth every penny.

Thank you Bill. I hate to think that I have that exact type of SWR meter (purchased following your advice!) in my own boat that is veeeery far away... I guess we will to get another one to work on this other boat. Many thanks again. Charlie

That looks like a wonderful bit of kit; thanks for the link.. I wish I could do a dozen of those jobs to pay for it!

An alternate to the SWR meter for adjusting antennas is the "Noise Bridge". It only requires a receiver and thus there is no need to transmit (interfere) while making antenna measurements.

MFJ MFJ-202B | RF NOISE BRIDGE

And, they tend to cost a bit less then your better SWR meters.
