Re: Best Smart Phones for Cruisers

Have you heard about the “Freedom Phone”? $500 but it doesn’t allow monitoring from Apple or Androids or government. Incrypted

Did you get this on a facebook post, Twitter post or just hear about it from someone who heard it on Fox news.

Lets see a factual link.

Did you get this on a shared facebook post, Twitter post or did you just hear about it from someone who overheard it from the next table at Crackerbarrel where somone was talking about knowing someone who heard it on Fox news or from Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Lets see a factual link.

I love it! If these scammers can get $500 for a $120 chinese no-name phone with a questionable OS and unprotected app store, frankly, my sympathies are with the scammers, not the scammed.

Re: Best Smart Phones for Cruisers

Is anyone using both iNavex and AquaMap on an android???

Are both applications fully implemented on android?

I think at one time they were iPhone only or only partial implementations on android.

But what are they now?

I have AquaMap on Android. It works, but some of the features are subscription-based and so I don't open it very often. It's a decent product but I'm trying to limit the number of subscriptions I maintain for charting apps.

Many of you were kind enough to share your opinions and experience. I ended up purchasing an Android, the top of the line Samsung 5G with extra memory. If the trip south works out, it will become a part of the boat electronics for all practical purposes, and I don't want to come up short on running helpful apps.

Bought the S21 Ultra 5G with 256 GB memory. Pricey yes, but with Verizon's interest-free pay over time it adds minimal cost to my monthly bill.

Thanks to all of you who replied, and also to those of you who I'm sure may want to comment on my phone choice LOL

Sounds like a good choice to me! I use my own Android phone pretty much as the primary navigation instrument on any boat I'm on but my own.

Interesting that you say it'll become part of the boat electronics suite. I've always batted around the idea of getting a dedicated tablet just for navigation. That seems to be the way a lot of people are going. Airline pilots are already there, and have been for years.

Re: Best Smart Phones for Cruisers

After following this thread I purchased a refurbished Samsung GalaxyNote+. I have not received it yet. This device is intended primarily for navigation. I have a Verizon iPhone6+ in perfect condition that serves my phone needs well. It is in a waterproof case, but I have had them fail. Thus my move to a more water resistant device.

I will be using AquaMap and iNavex and maybe OpenCPN. It will be a while before
I use it in ernest, land based responsibilities need to be dealt with.

Anyway, been a good thread for me.
