Re: B&G Zeus3/Navico trouble

This isn't new. My Simrad NSS8 freezes from time to time and just turns off. If you're down below cooking or using the head, the first you know about it is when the autopilot starts complaining about missing track data.

I'm not the only one though. I met a woman with the latest Simrad NSS9 evo3. Nothing else turned on, run from a battery and efoy generator, it would randomly turn off. No warning, nothing.

I don't think it's a voltage issue. Specs read: 10 - 31.2 V DC and it draws less than 3amps. Power consumption max - 23 watts.

I think the either cpu is too slow for when there's a lot of data, and it freezes and shits the bed, or some king of software bug.

Re: B&G Zeus3/Navico trouble

I had this problem today after a software update via download. Here was the fix: re-download the update manually onto a micro SD card via a separate computer. Power down the unit, then insert card with update on it, make sure there are no other cards in the chartplotter. Powered back up, the Zeus re-updated itself properly, and viola- back in service.

Re: B&G Zeus3/Navico trouble

I'm having similar problems with two Zeus 3S chartplotter. For me, the chart screen with go completely yellow, losing all depth info and navigational aids, only stuff that remains is the boat icon and a route if I had one up. You can imagine how this feels when navigating through a bunch of reefs. The only fix I have found is to reboot. Every time it happens, I think about tossing every piece of B&G off this boat and going with a completely different company.
